The Life of JIMMIE WILLIE CARTON SR

Jimmie Willie Carton Sr., 79, of Des Moines passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, February 26, 2011. He was born December 20, 1931, to James and Mary Carton in Des Moines and lived in many states before graduating from Tech High School in Phoenix, Arizona. Jimmie served in the Army after high school and fought in the Korean War. While in the military, Jimmie met the love of his life, Clara Carton. They were united in marriage on October 14, 1952. Jimmie worked as a self contractor for many years before going to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, where he soon retired. Jimmie enjoyed working with people and helping people. He was very blessed with many long time friends who were very special to him. Jimmie enjoyed riding his motorcycle and would take motorcycle rides with family and friends. He enjoyed watching western movies and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed taking long afternoon naps with his loving dog, Harry. Jimmie is survived by his wife of 58 years, Clara Carton; children, Jimmie (Cherie) Carton Jr, Mark Carton Sr., Sheila (Jerry) Rinehart, and Ronald (Chandra) Carton; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and 1 on the way; sister, Jeanette (David) Murrow; and his loving dog, Harry. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Carton; and granddaughter, Theresa Carton. Jimmie will be missed a lot by family and friends. Funeral services will be held 12 p.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
