The Life of LOWELL D NYSTROM

Lowell "Smokey" Nystrom, 81, of Colfax died of complications of Alzheimer''s disease Wednesday at Veteran''s Medical Center in Knoxville.  Services will bet at 10 a.m. Monday at Hamilton''s Near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home in Des Moines, with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery here.

Mr. Nystrom was born in Ogden and had lived in Des Moines many years.  He had lived in Fayetteville, Ark., 17 years before moving to Colfax two years ago.  He was a retired tire builder with Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. in Des Moines and also had worked for Pittsburgh Steel here.  He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Purple Heart Veterans Group.

He is survived by a daughter, Connie Anderson of Colfax; a son, Sat Jiwan Khalsa of Des Moines; two sisters, Neoma Mueller of Des Moines and Mary Lou Allison of California; three brothers, Dale of California, Roger of Arkansas and Darwin of Des Moines; and four grandchildren.
