The Life of LYLA L ALMS
Lyla Alms, 75, of the 5800 block of Winwood Drive, Johnston, died of cancer Sunday at Bishop Drumm Care Center there. The body was cremated, and memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Meredith Drive Reformed Church, of which she was a member. Burial of the cremains will be at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Mrs. Alms was born in Des Moines and had lived in the area most of her life. She was a retired secretary for the Iowa Department of Agriculture.
She is survived by her husband, Vernard; a son, Steve of Burnsville, MN; a daughter, Sherry simpson of Johnston; four brothers, Byron Thorpe of Cameron, MO, Dale Thorpe of Sarasota, FL, and Jerry Thorpe and Ray Thorpe, both of Des Moines; and five grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the central Iowa chapter of the Americna Cancer Society. Hamilton''s Near Highland Memory Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
