The Life of JAMES WARNER BURNS

James Burns, 60, passed away on December 23, 2009. He was born on January 18, 1949, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Sylvia and Mansel Burns. He served in the United States Navy as a Radioman during the Vietnam War Era. Jim loved spending time with his family and friends, hunting, fishing, and meeting new lots of new people throughout his career. He drove 20 years for Barr-Nunn trucking company, and had almost three million safe miles driven, and also drove for 17-1/2 years for Metropolitan Transit Authority. James is survived by his loving wife, Lynn; daughter, Melissa; son, Michael (Amanda) Burns; four grandsons, Preston, Dontez, Jason, and Cody whom he completely adored; and one niece; and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerry Burns; sister- in-law, Shirley Burns; and niece, Marie. Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 S.W. 9th. A burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, December 28, 2009 at Southtown Funeral Home. Memorial Contributions may be directed toward the family in loving memory of James.
