The Life of ROBERT SYLVESTER HIATT

Robert Sylvester "Grandpa" Hiatt, 70, of the 4100 block of East 32nc St. died of cancer Saturday at home.  The body will be cremated, and services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Iles Grandview Park Funeral Home.

Mr. Hiatt was born in Des Moines and had lived here the past 32 years.  During his career in the Air Force, he had lived in Turkey, Korea and Japan before retiring.  He was a member of American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Za-Ga-Zig Shrine.  He was a volunteer with McKee and Willard elementary schools.

Survivors include his wife, Adeline; four daughters, Shari Oliver, Rhonda Gillespie, Julie Morton and Debbie Ingrao, a son, Clinton, and five brother, David, Don, Joe, Edward "Buck" Cooper and Francis "Bud" Cooper, all of Des Moines; four sisters, Juanita Blessing of Ankeny, Theresa Yacavona of Indianola, Jean McMenamin of Des Moines, and Arlene Robinson of Marshfield, WI; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 4 pm today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m.  Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Children's Hospitals.
