The Life of ELLYN MARIE LAWRENCE

Ellyn Marie Lawrence passed away February 14, 2005 at the Christian Care Center in Hermitage, MO.

She was Born March 27, 1906 in Red Oak, IA, to Frank E. and Amanda S. Swanson.  Ellyn was the oldest of six children; the others preceding her in death.

Ellyn grew up in Essex, IA, and entered nurses training following high school.  She graduated as an RN in 1929 from the Iowa Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in Des Moines, IA.

Ellyn met her late husband, Roy G. Lawrence who was a patient of hers and a year later they were married on December 20, 1930 in Boone, IA.

After raising a family in Des Moines, Ellyn and Roy lived in Prairie Village, KS, and other cities, finally retiring in Wheatland, MO, where she was a member of the Galmey Community Bible Church and active in civic groups.  She was a past Worthy Matron and District Deputy Grand Matron of Hermitage Chapter 99 Order of Eastern Star.

Ellyn is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellen Carlson of White Bear Lake, MN; sons, Ronald L. of Lebanon, MO, Richard J. of Flower Mound, TX, and Robert R. of Wheatland, MO; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 17 at Hathaway-Peterman Funeral Home in Wheatland, MO, where an Order of Eastern Star Ceremony will be held at 7 p.m.  Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, February 18 at the funeral home, with Rev. Rick Walters of the Galmey Community Bible Church officiating.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 19 at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines, with Pastor Sharon Worthington of Grandview Lutheran Church officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Galmey Community Bible Church or Applewood Lane, an organization that supports people with disabilities.
