The Life of MARVIN KEITH WIESNER

Marvin K. Wiesner “M.K.”, age 93, of Carroll, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at the Carroll Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church in Carroll with Rev. Dr. Michael Fitzsimmons officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 A.M. until the time of service. Music for the service will be by Darrin Kozack. Burial will be in the Highland Park Memorial Garden in Des Moines with full military honors.

Born on December 30, 1916 at Des Moines, Iowa, he was the son of William and Cleona (Hartley) Wiesner. He grew up in Des Moines and graduated from East High School in 1934. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on December 1, 1942 and served four years. M.K. served in the Pacific Theater during WW II as a military police officer. He was married to Helen Hawkins on November 30, 1938 at Seymour, Missouri. After marriage the couple made their home in Des Moines where he worked as a dental technician. In 1958 he purchased Ames Dental Laboratory and operated the business successfully until his retirement in 1978. Upon his retirement the couple moved to Horseshoe Bend Arkansas where the local dentists set up a lab for M.K. to do work for them. The couple moved back to Carroll to be close to family in 2007. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the Elks, the Corvette Club of Iowa, the Sports Car Club of America, and the National Rifle Association for which he had won a national trophy and held the national record for marksmanship at 600 yards. In his spare time he enjoyed driving his Corvette, fishing, marksmanship, walking, hunting, RVing, ballroom dancing, and square dancing.

Surviving are his wife Helen of Carroll; a son Douglas Wiesner (Malinda) of West Des Moines; a daughter Christine Simmons (Bill) of Carroll; two grandsons: Bryan Wiesner (Tiffany) of Lake Forest, Illinois and Christopher Carlson (Kelly) of North Liberty, Iowa; and six great grandchildren: Ainsley, Lindley, Isabel, Dylan, Max, and Jacob. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Betty Palmer, a sister-in-law Geneva Backus, and a grandson Kyle Wiesner. >
