The Life of ESTHER HUGHES THOMPSON

Esther Elizabeth Thompson, daughter of Fred Hughes and Edna (Hayes) Hughes was born April 2, 1920 in Des Moines, IA and passed from this life January 6, 2009 at Clarke County Hospital at 88 years of age.

Esther was raised in Des Moines and graduated from Lincoln High School.  She was united in marriage to Harold Thompson in 1944; two sons blessed this union.  She worked in Des Moines, Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Denver and also lived on a farm near New Virginia before moving to Osceola 31 years ago.

Esther was genuinely interested in people and very organized.  She enjoyed visiting and joking with friends, crocheting & knitting and word puzzles.  She was a good cook and famour among her friends for her beef & noodles and Texas hash skillet.

Esther was a secetary at Miller Procducts for 16 years.  She was a member of TOPS organization and served on Osceola Senior Center Board of Directors.  She attended First Christian Church in Osceola.

Those relatives who prceded Esther in death were her parents; husband, Harold Thompson; and twin brother, Lester Hughes.

She leaves to cherish her memory; sons, Darryl (Karla) Thompson of Prairie Village, KS, and Ron (Jerry) Thompson of Florissant, CO; grandchldren, Jamie Thompson and Meaghan Thompson of Prairie Village, KS, Todd (Lora Jane) Haynes of Lee''s Summit, MO, Laurie (Lance) Kilgore of Houston, TX: great-grandchildren, Tayler Haynes and Austin Haynes of Lee''s Summit, MO, Cal, Connelly Caroline & Caleigh Margaret Kilgore of Houston, TX; nephews, Roger (Jill) Hughes of Littleton, CO, Jerry Hughes of Oklahoma City, OK, Lester (Ann) Hughes, Jr. of Wilmington, DE; other relatives and friends.

Services will be 11 a.m., Friday, at First Christian Church. Visitation will be on Thursday at Kale Funeral Home with family present 5 to 6 p.m. Memorials may go to Osceola Senior Center or Hospice of Central Iowa - Osceola.
