The Life of WILLIAM GEORGE SITTERLE

William George Sitterle, "Papa", 74, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 2, 2003 at home.  A Celebration of his Life will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 5 at New Hope Assembly of God, 6800 Townsend, Des Moines, followed by burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Bill was born May 3, 1929 in Cooper, IA to Marie McNeil and Alfred Sitterle.  After serving in the Korean Conflict as a US Navy civil engineer, he settled in Des Moines, IA.  A faithful servant of the Lord, Bill was an active member of New Hope Assembly of God Chruch and put God first, followed by family and friends.  He gave freely to all of his love, time and talents.  Although he enjoyed his golf, fishing and his tomato garden, Bill''s greatest joy was watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow.  Bill never met a stranger and his faith, fairness and humanity touched and inspired many lives.  His courage never faltered as he faced his final bettle with the cancer that eventually took his life.  Papa left a legacy with everyone he came in contact with.

Papa is survived by Shirlee, his wife of 45 years; children, Mark of Lubbock, TX, Kris of Bolingbrook, IL, Debra (Anderson) of Des Moines, Diedre (Lumley) of Boone and Diana (Collins) of Altoona; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Lawrence of Des Moines.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Marie and Alfred and a brother, Harold.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hamilton''s Near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home.
