The Life of CLARENCE E SIMONSEN

Clarence "Clancy" Simonsen, 75, of the 4000 block of 12th Street died of a respiratory ailment Thursday at Mercy Medical Center.  Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hamilton''s Near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Simonsen was born in Exira and had lived in Des Moines since 1949.  He had been a distributor with Meadow Gold Ice Cream and worked for Hiland Potato Chip Co.  He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Zion Lutheran Church.  He enjoyed reading, traveling and building butterly houses.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Dolores Simonsen; a son, Dana of Des Moines; a daughter, Lisa Castillo of Weldon; a sister, Marie Thompson of Audubon; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to his church.
