The Life of VIOLA ETHEL MCKOWEN

Viola Ethel McKowen, 80, of Iowa Lutheran Skilled Care Center, University at Penn Avenue, died of cancer Saturday at Iowa Lutheran Hospital.  Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Highland Park Funeral Home, with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mrs. McKowen was born in Centerville and had lived in Des Moines most of her life, moving to Bradenton, Fla., in 1983 and returning to Des Moines in 1990.  She was a homemaker and a member of Floridian Club and First Federated Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Donna Lutz of Des Moines, Jeanie Visser of Harvey, and Mary Ann Chaplar of Kingston, Ontario; a son, Jack of Des Moines; a sister, Velva Wilson of South Bend, Ind.; a brother, Robert Houser of Columbus, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 5:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to her church''s youth department or the American Cancer Society.
