The Life of DOROTHY I OVERHOLSER FANE

Dorothy Irene (Overholser) Fane, 89, formerly of 3323 Hickman Road, died Sunday, October 22, 2006 at NBA - Ramsey Home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, October 26 at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Dorothy was born in Reading, PA and moved to Des Moines in 1920. She graduated from North High School in 1935 then worked for Rollins Hosiery Mill. She married W. Raymond Overholser in a 1938 and to their union were born two children, Richard and Marjorie. Raymond preceded her in death in 1966 at which time she went to work for Look Magazine. In 1970 she married Keith E. Fane who preceded her in death in 1993. Dorothy was a member Forest Avenue Baptist Church and later Westover Baptist Church, North High School Alumni Association, the American Legion Auxiliary No. 374 and the Women's Life Insurance Society ( since 1931.) She enjoyed parades and "Music Under the Stars" at the Capitol grounds. She was known as the neighborhood caretaker of the elderly and the corner garage sale home where everyone stopped to visit. She will be remembered as a loving and nurturing mother and homemaker. She is survived by her son, Richard "Dick" Overholser and his wife, Frankie of Des Moines; two grandsons; two step grandsons; two granddaughters; two step-granddaughters; one step-granddaughter-in-law; nine great- grandchildren; eight step- great-grandchildren; nine step- great-great-grandchildren; niece, Sandy Heggen; nephew, Bob Loftin; and sister-in-law, Betty Row. She was preceded in death by her two husbands; loving companion and daughter, Marjorie Overholser in 2003; brother, George Row; and sister, Ethel Loftin. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to Westover Baptist Church 2330 62nd St. Des Moines.
