The Life of JAMES E POWELL

James E. Powell, 65, of the 800 block of Northwest Beechwood Street, Ankeny, died of a heart ailment Monday at Mercy Medical Center.  Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hamilton''s Near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home, with burial in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Powell was born in Des Moines and had lived in Johnston and Spirit Lake before moving to Ankeny six months ago.  He was a retired plant supervisor with Bridgestone-Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. and an Army veteran of the Korean War.  He had served as mayor and fire chief in Johnston and as a firefighter in Des Moines.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra; four daughters, Rhonda Burch of Ankeny, Cindy Titus of Des Moines, Linda Hanifen of Johnston and Kim Troja of Grimes; a son, Bill Ranney of Huntinton Beach, CA; his mother, Kate Fisher of Des Moines; two sisters, Shirley Reese of Ankeny and Barbara Gorham of Ohio; two brothers, Jerry and Harold, both of Des Moines and 12 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
