The Life of JACK D BENSHOOF

Jack D. Benshoof, 75, of Des Moines, died Sunday, April 6, 2003 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 9 at Grandview Park Funeral Home in Des Moines, with burial in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines. Jack was born in Des Moines and lived there most of his life. He had wintered in LaFeria, TX since 1983. He served in the US Navy during WWII. Jack was a retired business manager for Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 45 and retired vice president of Sheet Metal Workers International Association. He was a member of Union Park Presbyterian Church, the Eastgate Masonic Lodge, the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, VFW (life member), and American Legion LaFerian, TX. He was past president of Central Iowa Building Trades, past president of Great Plains District Council, involved with Camp Sunnyside, and a founding co-chair of UNICON. Jack enjoyed helping others and spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Arlys Benshoof of Des Moines; two daughters, Lois Moore of Des Moines and Jan Broquist of Des Moines; two sons, Jack Benshoof, Jr. of Runnells and Gary Benshoof of Mitchellville; a sister, Geraldine Hamilton of Kirksville, MO; a brother Jim Maize of Kirksville, MO; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Viewing begins at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, at Grandview Park Funeral Home, with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to In-Trust Hospice in Des Moines.
