The Life of JOHN D DOWNARD
John D. Downard, 96, of 800 SE Edison Ave. died of a heart ailment Friday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Hamilton''s Funeral Home, with burial in Highland Memory Garden Cemetery.
Mr. Downard, a lifelong Des Moines resident, was a laborer with the city of Des Moines and had served with the National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Georgia; a daughter, Debby Benshoof of DeSoto; a son, Jerry of Missouri; a step-daughter, Beverly Tulk of Des Moines; a stepson, Donald Robertson of Kansas City, KS; two sisters, Thelma Speck and Beatrice Heathershaw, both of Des Moines; 20 grandchldren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
