The Life of CHRISTINE V. SZURGOT

Christine Szurgot Christine V. (Gdowik) Szurgot, 81, of Exeter Township, passed away on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, in Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center. She was the wife of Stanley J. “Skip” Szurgot, who passed away February 11, 2015. Born in Reading, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Casper and Joanna (Kwarta) Gdowik. Christine graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1958 and enjoyed her monthly luncheons with fellow classmates. She was a member of St. Catharine Of Siena R.C.C. She worked at Boscov’s for several years and then became a teacher’s aide at Trinity United Church of Christ preschool in Mt. Penn for many years until her retirement. Christine is survived by her children Donna M. Duffy - Exeter, Stephen M. Szurgot husband of Marie - Mt. Penn, Lynn M. Rothermel wife of Patrick - Wyomissing, Robert A. Szurgot husband of Tricia - Wyomissing. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Nicholas, Ashley, & Zachary Duffy, Jessica & Joshua Szurgot, Olivia & Ian Rothermel, and Jack Szurgot, and two great-grandchildren Addison and Benjamin. She was predeceased by her siblings Anna Eitzel, Walter “Deacon” Gdowik, Nora Giniewski, Florence Hydock, Frank Gdowik, Josephine Gardecki, Mary “Minnie” Gdowik and Joseph Gdowik Visitation with family and friends will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am with a Mass of Christian burial beginning at 10:30 am in St. Catharine Of Siena R.C.C. -- Exeter Township, 4975 Boyertown Pike, Reading, Pa 19606. Interment will be at Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale. In Lieu of Flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or a charity of your choice in Christine’s name.
