The Life of William J. Clifford

CLIFFORD Mr. William J. Clifford, age 83 of Ansonia, entered into eternal rest on Thursday at Griffin Hospital with his loving family and friends by his side. He was the husband of the late Viola Craven Clifford. Born in Derby on September 14, 1927, he was the son of the late John J. and Mary Dunn Clifford. He was a communicant of the Church of the Assumption, a member of the Knights of Columbus, 1945 graduate of the Ansonia High School and proudly served in the U.S. Navy. Upon graduating from Fairfield University, he worked for 33 years for Anaconda American Brass Co., retiring in 1985. He was a devoted New York Mets fan and also enjoyed vacationing in Laconia, N.H. Survivors include his daughter, Deborah (John) Granton of Naugatuck; sons, William M. Clifford of Palm Springs and Robert (Victoria) Clifford of West Haven; his cherished grandchildren, Joshua Granton of New Haven, Jessie Granton of Norwalk, Amy Clifford and Zachary Clifford of West Haven. William is also survived by his loving companion, Marion Ryan of Ansonia. He was predeceased by his brother, John T. Clifford. His funeral service will be held on Monday at 9 a.m. from the Bennett Funeral Home, 91 N. Cliff St., Ansonia to the Church of the Assumption for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. >>
