The Life of IRMGARD L HIERL

Irmgard L. (Schmidt) Hierl Irmgard L. (Schmidt) Hierl, 80, passed away peacefully Monday, December 28, 2020, in her Wyomissing Hills home, after a valiant battle with cancer. Born in Immendingen, Germany, she was a daughter of the late Otto and Wilhelmina (Grimm) Schmidt, and the widow of Frederick J. Hierl, who passed in 2002. Irmgard loved the outdoors, especially walking throughout Wyomissing Hills, always greeting her many friends and neighbors, often stopping to “chat.” She was also a fixture at the Hills Pool, gathering almost every summer day to sit with her close friends she affectionately referred to as the “Golden Girls” and often leading the story-telling and laughter. She will be dearly missed by all so very lucky to call her “friend.” In her quiet time, Irmgard enjoyed knitting, but especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a long-time member of St. Ignatius RC Church, Whitfield. Irmgard is survived by her son Fred K. Hierl, and her cherished grandchildren Kyra and Trevor, as well as her brothers Wilfred and Dieter Schmidt, both in Germany. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Deborah Hierl, her sister Inge Martinant, and her brothers Herbert, Manfred and Ted Schmidt. Due to Covid restrictions, services will be private at the convenience of the Hierl family. A public celebration will be planned in the future when we can all gather again safely. In lieu of flowers, donations in Irmgard’s memory may be made to St. Ignatius RC Church, 2810 St. Albans Drive, Sinking Spring, PA 19608. The Edward. J. Kuhn Funeral Home, West Reading, is assisting with arrangements.
