The Life of HELEN E KOEHLER

After a vibrant life as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Helen Elizabeth (Sattler) Koehler, 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 4, 2017, in her residence at The Highlands of Wyomissing.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Henry B. Koehler, who she married May 26, 1951. Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Otto and Mary (Komlodi) Sattler, and a graduate of Central Catholic High School. She was also a member of St. Ignatius R.C. Church, Spring Township.

Helen's life was characterized by heritage, empathy and a strong work ethic. An honorary member of the Reading Liederkranz, she and her husband, Henry, met as young dancers and charter members of the Edelweiss Shuhplattlers. As a young woman, Helen worked at the Berkshire Knitting Mills and was later employed at Lucent Technologies/Agere for 28 years, until her retirement.

As fun-loving as she was industrious, Helen delighted in spending time with her friends and the large, close-knit family she created. Spirited and vivacious, she was a great storyteller, who often entertained people with her humorous tales that characterized her mischievous gaiety. A strong believer in the power of prayer, she was a devoted Catholic who made helping others an integral and deeply meaningful part of her life.

In addition to her husband, Helen is also survived by six children: Brenda J. Koehler, Shillington, Craig A. Koehler, Coatesville, Nancy E. Yeager, wife of Conrad, Shillington, Lisa M. Frank, Shillington, David H. Koehler, husband of Joanne, Sinking Spring, and Karen L. Achenbach, wife of Michael, Sinking Spring. Other survivors include nine grandchildren; and six great grandchildren; to whom she was fondly known as Oma.

Helen was predeceased by a daughter, Christine S. Koehler; and two siblings, Otto Sattler Jr. and Rose Duffin.

Helen's family would like to express their utmost gratitude to The Highland's skilled nursing staff for their first-rate care and compassion.
