The Life of Walter Vincent Proschinger
On May 19, 2023, Walter Vincent Proschinger, 56 years old, died surrounded by his family at Einstein Medical Center Montgomery.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Joanne C. Proschinger of Doylestown, PA and his sister, Christa M. Scheidly (Sean C. McGarrigle) of Havertown, PA. He will be missed by his nephew, Jakob V. Scheidly and his niece, Áine M. McGarrigle. Walt was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Vincent Proschinger.
Walter was born on April 21, 1967 at Rolling Hills Hospital in Rockledge, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Council Rock High school in June 1985, followed by a two-year electronics program at CHI in Southampton, Pennsylvania.
Walter loved the outdoors. His interest in fly fishing, hunting, snowboarding, and skiing took him to Montana. Always the social guy, he made friends wherever he went. Walt was the manager of a restaurant in Bozeman, Montana at the time of a car accident.
He dealt with the challenges of incomplete quadriplegia the following 12 years, eventually moving to Inglis House in Philadelphia. Walt enrolled in an independent living program there, volunteering as an early participant with their Innovation Center to enhance residents’ independence, and allowing him to move next door to the Inglis Gardens Apartments also on Belmont Avenue. Walt donated his time with newly handicapped individuals at Magee Rehab, sharing his experiences.
Walter was a strong man with a gentle soul and said please and thank you without fail. His smile was infectious and made everyone’s day. There are no words which can express how dearly he will be missed by his family and friends.
A memorial service for Walter is scheduled for 11 a.m. June 1, 2023. A visitation period will precede, starting at 10 a.m. Both are to be held at Laurel Hill Funeral Home, 222 Belmont Avenue, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004.
