The Life of Mrs. Shirley E. Aldinger

Shirley Aldinger, 93 devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away May 23, 2023. She was the daughter of Oliver and Maud Matthias and was the youngest of eight children. She grew up in a farming family in Littlestown where they operated the Top Line Tomato Canning Company.

After graduating from Littlestown High School, she attended Thompson’s Business School in York, PA, and worked on the secretarial staff for Cole Steel Cabinet Company in York. She
met husband Karl in York and then relocated
to Randallstown, Maryland where they raised four children, later returning to York after Karl’s retirement.

Shirley loved being with her family and friends and especially adored her dogs. She was a talented and determined gardener, always producing an amazingly beautiful flower garden. She and Karl enjoyed spending time on the Eastern Shore catching, steaming, and eating blue crabs and flounder. She always looked forward to the Matthias Reunion when her entire extended family would gather.

She is preceded in death by her parents Oliver and Maud Matthias and her brothers, Charles Matthias, and Glen Matthias and sisters, Ruth Anna Sterner, Edith Stambaugh, Roma Harner, Sarah Harner and Evelyn Mayers. She is
survived by her husband Karl Aldinger and her children, Timothy Aldinger (Nancy), Philip Aldinger, Karla Drahnak (Doug) and Daniel Aldinger (Joy); and grandchildren, Timothy Aldinger, Jr., John Aldinger, James Aldinger and Lucas Aldinger. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market Street, York. A viewing will be held Wednesday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
