The Life of H. Jay Surrena

H. Jay Surrena Jr., 87, of Newton Square, died Feb. 24, 2023.

He was born in Grove City, Pa., to Harland J. Surrena and Elizabeth Surrena (née Filer). After graduating from Grove City College, with a BS in Chemical Engineering, he began a 40-year career with Sun Oil Co. At the time of his retirement, he was a Vice President of Crude Oil Acquisitions for Sun International Ltd.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Judith Surrena (née Platt); a son Jeffrey Surrena of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a daughter Lynn Quinn of Spring City, Pa.; and three grandchildren, Abigail Quinn of Wilmington, Del., Bradley Quinn and Lilly Quinn of Spring City, Pa.; and a sister, Elizabeth McAfee of Kettering, Ohio.

During his professional career, Jay served on the International Energy Agency in Paris, France. He held several oil refining patents and belonged to numerous professional organizations related to the oil industry.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be given to either the Helen Kate Furness Free Library, 100 N. Providence Road, Wallingford, PA 19086 or the Media-Upper Providence Free Library, E. Front St., Media, PA 19063.
