The Life of Rose Ellen Schubert

Rose Ellen Schubert, age 79, passed away March 29, 2023 in Fargo, North Dakota.

Rose Ellen (Berrier) Schubert, 79, entered through the pearly gates into heaven and met Jesus on Wednesday, March 29, 2023. Rose was born on October 31, 1943 to Bruce and Evelyn Berrier.

How to fit the life of Rose into one page….ROSE LOVED. She loved Jesus, she loved family, she loved friends, she loved children, she loved people that some would consider hard to love.

Daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mom, grandma/nana, great grandma Rose was born and raised outside of Bascom, OH. She was the sixth born out of seven Berrier siblings. She loved her family more than words can express and was so very proud every time she spoke of her Grandma Comer, parents and siblings.

Rose came to know Jesus early. She attended Union United Church of Christ with her Grandma Comer, mom and sister Irene (Sis) and family. Eventually their church home throughout her childhood and youth became the Hopewell Church of God. Rose spoke often about the impact the church family at the Hopewell Church of God had on her life and was known to visit when back in the area. Rose was active in churches throughout her adult life which included the Sandusky Church of the Nazarene, Mandan Church of the Nazarene and College Church of the Nazarene.

Rose attended Hopewell-Loudon school for grades 1 through 12 and obtained her elementary education degree from Heidelberg University in 1965. Rose married Bob Schubert on August 22, 1965 in West Independence, OH. They had known each other since the first grade. Bob was Rose’s one and only true love and she cherished their 54 years of marriage together.

In 1975 Bob and Rose relocated to North Dakota and resided there until 2010. Rose spent the majority of her teaching career at Pioneer Elementary School in Bismarck, ND where she loved on first graders year after year. Their next move was to Olathe, KS to retire next to the Mid America Nazarene University campus and a warmer climate. Yes, you read that right, Bob and Rose retired next to a college campus. (OK, Karen and Keith may have been living in the area as well).

Rose had three children Heidi, Karen, and Keith. You probably did not have a conversation with Rose without hearing at least one story about her children, grandchildren or great children.

Rose had a passion for children’s ministry and music. Every interaction she had with children was to bring them closer to Jesus. She served as a Sunday School teacher, children’s choir director, Junior Bible Quizzing coach, and mentor. Musically Rose enjoyed singing in the church choir and in special arrangements with Bob. She also played her trumpet in the high school band and continued playing taps at memorial services and in the church band in her adult years.

Rose had a positive attitude that made you smile and she could turn a negative conversation around quickly. If she answered the phone when you called, you would be greeted with “Hello Schubert’s it’s a great day!” Rose’s legacy was to “Bring ‘em all” to Jesus and she carried that through until the day she left this earth by living out the spiritual gifts of teaching, encouraging and serving as well as the fruits of the spirt that were evidenced in her life: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Rose is survived by her children, Heidi (Seth) Lund, Karen (Todd) Garrett, Keith (Ragan) Schubert, grandchildren Tyson (Ashley) Lund, Shayla (Austin) Pennick, Sydney Lund, Easten & Eva Garrett, Anna & Amos Schubert, great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Olivia, and Henry Lund and Braxtyn, Brynlee and Bostyn Pennick. She is also survived by her sister Irene (Sis) Boos, brothers Dean and Jack (Vickie) Berrier.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, parents Bruce and Evelyn Berrier, brother David (Sonny) Berrier, sisters Barb Haugh and Sandy Cale.

The family will receive guests for a visitation from 9:30-11:00am on Monday, April 17, 2023, at College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe, with the funeral service following at 11:00am. A Private burial at Olathe Memorial Cemetery will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Rose’s memory be made to the music department at MidAmerica Nazarene University or Nazarene Missions International - College Church of the Nazarene.
