The Life of Margaret M. Agnes

Margaret “Margie” Mary Agnes, 85, of South Philadelphia, PA died Monday, March 13, 2023. Margie grew up in an Italian neighborhood surrounded by all her beloved family. The first three years of her daughter’s life, Elaine thought she was growing up in Italy. She didn’t know she was in America. In a 2-3 mile or less radius there were at least 50 family members. The house on Marshall Street was always full of people, family, music, and dancing and food - most of all food and wine. Margaret became a hairstylist and makeup artist. She worked at several posh salons in Center City Philadelphia. She was trained in the art of Italian hairdressing. She attended classes all the time and extra classes in New York to keep up with her craft. She was very loved by her clients and friends that she worked with. She was devoted to her children and stayed in Philly even though she was asked by a celebrity artist to go and work with him in his New York salon. Margie‘s faith never wavered, and she went to catholic church every Sunday, walking there with her friends and her aunt Mary, until the time of her dementia. She put her children first and gave them a good education, making sure that they had all that they needed to get through those school years.  She was also devoted to her grandson Julian, who brought her great joy in life and was born in Italy. She loved the arts, going to theater, museums and surrounded by music and dancing of any kind. She loved going out with her family to restaurants and family parties. She was beautiful beyond compare and loved each of her children in their own way in her own way.

She is predeceased by her parents, Louis Mallace and Stella Stagliano; and siblings: Marion, Connie and Dominick. She is survived by her children: Elaine “Adita”, Estelle and Louis, Jr.; grandson Julian; brother Joseph Mallace (Cindy Mallace); and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass at St. Mary Magdalen De Pazzi Church, 712 Montrose Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147 on Saturday, March 18th at 11 a.m. The family will receive guests starting at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the SPCA, Amnesty International or the Veteran’s Association.
