The Life of Charles M. Johnson Jr.

Charles M. Johnson, on March 12, 2023, age 94, at Waverly Heights in Gladwyne where he resided for the past 15 years.

Charles was pre-deceased by his beloved wife Lenora D. Johnson and daughter Pamela E. Johnson (Christopher). He is survived by his daughter Susan J. Hunter (Walter), his granddaughters Kristin E. Smith and Kelly S. McGuire (Ben), and a great-granddaughter, Caroline G. McGuire. He is also survived by his longtime friend and companion, Lyn Stepnick.

Born in Philadelphia in 1928 as the only child of Charles M. Johnson and Harriet Cochrane, Charles was a graduate of the Waldron Academy in Merion, The Canterbury School in New Milford, CT, and Princeton University, class of 1950. He was also a graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking and the Columbia University Commercial Bank Management Program. Charles served in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 as part of the U.S. Army Chemical Corps.

He enjoyed a long career in banking, serving in executive positions in commercial lending at Central Penn National Bank, Provident National Bank, Barnett Bank in Winter Park, FL, and PNC. Charles also served as a banking consultant for several years after his retirement in 1986. Charles enjoyed golf and was a former member of St. David's Golf Club. He was a railroad steam engine enthusiast throughout his life, and he spent many weekends over the years riding steam engine excursions all over the country and working on his model railroad. He always enjoyed telling, and hearing, a good joke.

Family and friends are invited to his Visitation on Thursday, March 16, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 35 Old Eagle School Road, Wayne, PA 19087. A Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 AM. Interment will immediately follow the service at Arlington Cemetery in Drexel Hill.
