The Life of Mrs. Janet Pauline Sindlinger

Janet P. (Gentzler) Sindlinger, 92, entered into rest on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at Country Meadows Retirement Community.

She was the wife of the late Thomas H. Sindlinger, Sr. They were married for 73 years before his passing six weeks earlier in late December 2022. Born on August 3, 1930, in York, PA, Janet was the daughter of the late Frazier II and Pauline (Miller) Gentzler. She was a 1948 graduate of William Penn Senior High School.

Aside from being a full-time doting wife, mother and grandmother, Janet worked many part-time jobs, including at Sears, McCrory’s Warehouse and Wickey’s Catering. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church for 73 years. Janet’s greatest joy was raising her children and being a Granny to her grandkids and great grandkids. Most people knew her as Granny, instead of Janet, and she told everyone she could be their Granny if they wanted. She also loved spending time with her four sisters and stayed close with them throughout the years.

Janet is survived by her four children, Deborah Waltimyer (Dean), Diane Mitchell (Jeff), both of York, Thomas Sindlinger, Jr., (Amy) and Todd Sindlinger (Cyndi), both of Red Lion. She had nine grandchildren, Andrew, Abigail, Daniel, Angela, Jamie, Courtney, Brandon, Natalie and Michael and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by her three sisters, Jean Nitchman, Karen Chronister and Carol Dick and one brother, Robert Gentzler. She was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Markle and five brothers, Frazier Gentzler III, Russell Gentzler, Vernon Gentzler, Marvin Gentzler and Ricky Gentzler.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 13, 2023, at St. John Lutheran Church at 2580 Mount Rose Ave., York with the Rev. Tab Cosgrove officiating. Visitation will be from 10am to 11am, with the service starting at 11am. A graveside committal service will be held at 1:45 p.m. at Prospect Hill Cemetery in York. A funeral cortege will form at 1:30 p.m. at the Pennsylvania Avenue entrance to the cemetery. The John W. Keffer Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., York are entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. John Lutheran Church.
