The Life of Virginia Grooms Wingo

It is with great sorrow that we mourn the passing of Virginia Grooms Wingo, age
81, on February 22, 2023. A loving family surrounded her at her home in White
Hall, Maryland, as she passed away peacefully.
Virginia Wingo was born to William and Carrie Grooms on July 24, 1941, in
Louisa, Virginia. She had three siblings: Mary Paschall, Gertrude Jones, and
Herbert Grooms. Virginia was the eldest child of a close-knit family. She
graduated from A.G. Richardson High School in 1957 and later began a successful
career at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as a payroll manager.
During her service in the HSS, she was lovingly referred to as the "little general"
by her peers.
Virginia was a devoted wife to her husband of 62 years, John, and a loving mother
to her son Christopher and his wife, Shereen. In addition, she was a much-loved
grandmother to three grandchildren Barrington, Sebbie, and Amir. Virginia's love
and dedication to her family truly stood out as one of her best qualities.
She was known for her benevolent and kind spirit, tenacious work ethic, and strong
conviction. Virginia was also an active member of her congregation, Sargent
Memorial Presbyterian, and served as the church treasurer for many years.
In her free time, Virginia enjoyed organizing family events, traveling the world,
and cooking delicious food, such as her beloved German chocolate cake and sweet
potato pie.
Those who knew and loved Virginia Wingo will miss her dearly. She left behind a
legacy of love, benevolence, and integrity that will never be forgotten.
