The Life of Mr. Carl E. Smith

Carl E. Smith, 79, died on Monday, January 30, 2023, at York Hospital.

Born on May 24, 1943, in York, he was the son of the late Frank Martin and Mary Lydia (Haker) Smith.

He was preceded in death by his four siblings, Frank Smith, Sylvia Smith, Bradley Smith, and Dorothy Deacon.

Carl was a 1961 graduate of William Penn Senior High School and a member of Yorkshire United Methodist Church. He retired from Osram Sylvania in 2005 after 38 years of service. Carl was a member of The Thirteenth Ward Club, The Viking Athletic Association and The Hawk Gunning Club. He was an avid and loyal Orioles fan.

Carl is survived by his wife, Jane A. Wagner Smith and his two sons, Marc E. Smith and his wife Jana and Jonathan D. Smith and his wife Kristin. He was an amazing "Pop" to his five grandchildren, who he dearly loved, Rachel and Bradley Smith and William, Luke, and Charlie Smith. He was the stepfather to Jane's children, Heather Schroeder, Norm Wagner, and Edd Wagner.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Etzweiler Funeral Home, 1111 East Market Street, York, with Pastor David Kominsky officiating. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00am at the Funeral Home. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
