The Life of William R. King Sr.

William R. King, Sr., 94, of Collingdale, PA, died December 1, 2022 at Vitas Hospice. Known as “Bill” and/or “Sarge”, he was born and raised in Philadelphia’s Grays Ferry section. Bill enlisted in the Army at 17, serving on bases in Germany, Korea, Japan and the US. The family settled in Collingdale 57 years ago.  Bill began a second career with the US Postal Service in Drexel Hill. He also worked as a bartender at Tony's in Collingdale. As Sarge, Postal worker, bartender or friend, his generosity knew no bounds; he served as confidant and counselor to many. As husband, dad, grandfather and uncle he was beloved. An avid Phillies fan and student of politics he also enjoyed shows and musicals. Predeceased by his sister Irene DiBerardo, brother James King and grandson Phillip King, he was the beloved husband of the late Mary Rose (nee Miller), who died in 2017. Survivors include his sons, Bill King, Greg King, Doug King, granddaughter, Julianna King and his sister, Catherine Mengini.

 His Funeral Service will be 12 noon Friday, December 9, 2022, at Toppitzer Funeral Home at Arlington

Visitation:   begins at 11 am Friday at the Toppitzer Funeral Home at Arlington

Interment: Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill, PA 19026

Contributions: in his memory to charity of donor’s choice, would be preferred
