The Life of KAY JEANNINE STEEN

Kay Jeannine Young Steen was born in 1931 in Charles City, Iowa and passed away on November 18, 2022 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Kay moved to Des Moines, Iowa as a teenager and was married to Richard Steen at Epworth Methodist Church. She was the first individual to receive lessons on the newly purchased church organ at Epworth, and was the organist there for several years.

Kay continued her education post high school with classes at both Drake University in Des Moines, and Palomar College in Rancho Bernardo, California during a five year stint out West. She worked medical front offices in both Des Moines and Rancho Bernardo, and volunteered at hospitals in both Des Moines and Lincoln.

An early class in cake decorating led Kay to quite artistic endeavors in the baking world, including her 'Santa Face' cookies that friends and family remember. She and her husband were well traveled and enjoyed bridge games with friends and their beloved small dogs.

After the death of her husband of 49 years, Kay moved to Lincoln to be closer to family there. She is survived by her daughter Laura, of Anaheim, California, son David of Lincoln, Nebraska, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 from 12:00-2:00pm, at Hamilton’ s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, followed by graveside services at 2:00 pm at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1 NE 60th Ave., Des Moines, Iowa.
