The Life of Helen Vivian Porter

Helen V. Becker Porter, 88, a long-time resident of Forest Hill, passed away on October 27. Mrs. Porter was born and raised in Baltimore and lived for several years in Baltimore County, before settling down for more than 50 years in Harford County. She was a graduate of Patterson High School. Prior to starting a family, she was employed as an administrative assistant for an insurance company. Later, she proudly volunteered in her children’s schools and in many capacities in her church over the years. Mrs. Porter was married to her high school sweetheart, James O. Porter, Jr., for nearly 68 years, who passed away in September. They are survived by their 2 children (Dawn Porter Converse, married to Stephen; and Mark, married to Rhonda Tayson Porter), 4 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Porter was well known in her church community for her lovely voice and she enjoyed soloing for many life events over the years. The lives of these much loved parents, grandparents and great-grandparents will be celebrated together in a memorial service on Friday, November 4 at 11 am at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1515 Emmorton Road, Bel Air, Maryland.
