The Life of JOSEPH B MRAZ

Joseph Mraz, 85, passed away at The Highlands at Wyomissing on Friday, Jan 27, 2023.

He was the loving husband of Beatrice (O’Connell) Mraz. Joe was born on February 12, 1937 in Perth Amboy, NJ., the son of the late Alexander and Margaret (Munyak) Mraz.

He graduated from the University of Notre Dame and did post graduate work at the College of Business Administration at NYU. He also served in the US Army reserve in El Paso Texas.

In 1972, after several years of employment in New York City, he and Betty took a “2 year trial” of country living to shorten his commute. They moved to the Oley Valley and the next 46 years there passed quickly. Joe retired from Beacon Container Corporation as Vice President and CFO and stayed on as a consultant for a few years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching Notre Dame football games, traveling and playing golf with friends. Joe, however, always kept Monday mornings open so that he could deliver bread to the Kennedy House.

The family’s annual summer trips to Rehoboth beach were treasured times, filled with walks on the beach, biking, tennis, swimming, and lots of laughter and memories.

His family and his faith were the most important things to him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Joseph Michael, husband of Aimee Mraz, and Kathryn, wife of Dr. Paul Marr; as well as his sister, Marian Valleau. There are also six beautiful grandchildren: Tyler, Alyssa and Caroline Mraz and Kira, Gavin and Collin Marr. He was predeceased by his brother, Alexander Mraz.

The family would like to thank Joe’s friend, Bruce Martin, for all he has done and also thank the staff in The Highlands Skilled Nursing and Promedica/Heartland Hospice for their loving care.

Burial will be private, and a Memorial Mass will take place at St. Catherine of Siena Church on March 15th, 2023, at 10:30 am. Contributions may be made to Kennedy House or to a charity of your choice in remembrance of him. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc. West Reading is in charge of arrangements.
