The Life of Carolyn W. Hanna

Carolyn W. Hanna (nee Weller), 82, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2022 at her home in Brookhaven.

Born in Bayonne, NJ in 1940 to Charles E. and Ruth (nee Trostel) Weller.  After living in a few different locations as a young child, Carolyn grew up in Upper Darby with her younger brother Bill.  She graduated from Upper Darby High School and then attended Ursinus College where she majored in History.  After graduation, she worked for Penn Mutual as a computer programmer back when computers ran on punch cards.

Carolyn met her future husband Thomas Hanna at Aldan Union Church in the 1950s.  After dating through high school and college, they were engaged in 1962 and married in September 1963.  As a ROTC candidate, Tom served in the army for 2 years including time at Fort Riley, KS where their first child was born.  They moved back to Folcroft in 1965 while Tom served in Vietnam then they moved to Aldan in 1968.

While their children were school-aged, Carolyn worked in the library at Aldan Elementary School, and later at the The Christian Academy in Brookhaven.  Summer vacations consisted of camping with her family throughout the country.  She also enjoyed walking on the beach while staying at her parents' home in Ocean City, NJ.

Carolyn was committed to her family.  There were trips with the grandchildren to Disney World, Grand Canyon, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, and other day trips to various museums and aquariums.  Holidays were celebrated with extended family on both sides as well as assorted family reunions.

A life-long member of Aldan Union Church, she was involved in activities for the youth and women of the church and was a strong supporter of missions.  These activities included Pioneer Girls, Vacation Bible School, the Missions Committee, the annual Missionary Conference, as well as serving as the Children's Ministry Coordinator.

Carolyn is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Thomas Hanna; her children Karen Hanna, Jill Dunscomb, and Richard (Heather) Hanna; her brother William (Virginia) Weller; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
