The Life of ZOLA DEAN HATHAWAY

Zola Dean Hathaway, 91, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family, September 13, 2022. She was born to Herschel and Opal Stecker, October 24, 1930, in Skedee, Oklahoma. Zola graduated from Stillwater High School in 1948. She worked at Montgomery Ward in the order office filing in the back because she was just 12. Worked in the cafeteria at OSU for breakfast and lunch hours at 15. In high school Zola worked at “Humons” Ice Cream Shop. Then while still in high school she went to Duckwall Furniture store and worked there till she married John A. Hathaway in 1950. Zola was married to her loving husband John for 63 years. Zola was a stay-at-home mom and raised John A. Hathaway II and Cynthia D. Hathaway.

Zola was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. She spent many years being a devoted servant to the Lord in the church. She also prayed everyday for her family and had daily devotions.

Zola was a loving wife and mother. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, cross-stitch, adult coloring, and reading books.

Zola is survived by her son, John A. (Melody) Hathaway II and daughter, Cynthia D. Hathaway; granddaughter Amber and great-grandson Leighton; three nieces, Charlotte (Cindy), Susan (Jeff), and Karen. Zola was preceded in death by her husband, John, her parents, and her sister Berniece Echols. The family will greet friends and family from 2 - 4 p.m. Sunday, September 18, 2022, at Iles Westover Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 19, 2022 at Iles Westover Chapel. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be given as Zola asked them to be given in her memory.
