The Life of John W Miller

John William Miller, 85, of Pottsville, passed away Thursday, August 11th.

Born in Atlas, PA on July 11, 1937, he was the son of the late Alfred Miller and Mae (Zebe).

John served in the U.S. Army and was trained as a radio operator.  After his service, he trained as a mechanic and worked at the General Cigar Company, and then as a Supervisor Maintenance Mechanic at Kraft Foods in Fogelsville, PA for nearly 25 years before retiring.

John was a member of the former St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church in Port Carbon for nearly 50 years, and more recently was a member of the St. Clare of Assisi Church.

He was an avid supporter of local high school sports and traveled throughout the State to attend Mt. Carmel football games and Pottsville Area High School basketball games.  John loved gardening, collecting antiques, and repairing anything from cars to antique clocks.  But more than anything, John found the greatest joy in being with his family, laughing and bringing a smile to everyone’s face.

John is survived by his wife, Kathryn Kleckner Kramer, to whom he was married in 2010.

John is pre-deceased by his wife of 25 years, Charlotte Mazloom Miller, and is survived by their four children: daughters, DeAnn Miller and her partner Jeffrey Gittleman of Sugarloaf; Deborah Miller Skelly of Tampa, FL; Donna Crouse and her husband Joe of Pottsville; and son, Derek J. Miller and his wife, Susan of New Hope, PA; and many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by two stepdaughters: Jena Crea and her partner Mark Sims of Reading; Anne Kramer Rehrig, and her husband Fred of Schuylkill Haven; and his Mother In-law, Jean Kleckner of New Ringgold.

He was predeceased by five sisters, Beatrice McMasters, Eleanor Ermert, Rose Koslosky, Mae Evert, Dorothy Kutchen and three brothers Alfred, James and Robert Miller.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Clare of Assisi Church, St. Clair, Thursday August 18th at 10:30 AM with Msgr William F. Glosser officiating. Visitation in the church will begin at 9:30 AM.  Interment will follow at Schuylkill Memorial Park, Inc. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to be made to St. Clare of Assisi Church, 250 E Hancock St, St Clair, PA 17970.
