The Life of RONALD EUGENE COLVIN

Ronald Colvin, 77, passed away on August 10, 2022, in Urbandale.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave, Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Family will greet friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m., on Monday.
Ron and Connie married in 1971 and spent 51 wonderful years together. Ron loved life and lived it to the fullest. He filled every season with activity as he enjoyed camping, boating on Saylorville Lake and the Mississippi River, snowmobiling and playing cards. Ron loved spending time with his family and friends doing all these activities.

Ron was a true people person. He could easily talk to anyone and made friends wherever he went. He was always full of stories and the family loved hearing them, especially about his childhood shenanigans, such as hanging out at George’s Chili King with his lifelong friends.

Ron graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1963. Ron worked hard all his life starting his career as a paperboy in the Windsor Heights area, a caddy at Hyperion Golf Course and Easter’s Super Valu Grocery. He worked for Midwest Lumber for a number of years and then found his niche as a salesman at 3E, working for the company for 35 years until he retired in 2007. Following his retirement, Ron and Connie became snowbirds and settled in Yuma, Arizona, for several months out of the year.

Although Ron worked very hard, he always found time for his family and friends, and if it meant picking up a hammer, he was there. Ron had been quoted: “The fun can begin when the job is done.”

Ron was a Mason and member of the Masonic Order of Brotherhood – Auburn – Union Park Lodge since 1968 and a member of the Scottish Rite since 1990.

Ron leaves behind his loving wife of 51 years, Connie, three children, Jeff (Janna) Colvin, Granger, Iowa; Stacey (Mark) Singleton, Johnston, Iowa; Greg (Dawn) Colvin, Sierra Vista, Arizona; five grandchild, Jared (Megan Rahm) Colvin, Kirby (Ryhanna) Singleton, Jordan (Michael) Tarin, Kale (Megan) Singleton, Madison Colvin and 4 great grandchildren, Sloan and Shay Singleton and Raiya and Reid Tarin.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Kathleen Colvin; son, Shawn Burgess and two granddaughters, Sarah and Susan Colvin.
