The Life of Mrs. Dorothy Knox

KNOX Dorothy A. Knox, age 88 of Fairfield, passed away peacefully Friday, July 25, 2008, at The Carolton Convalescent Hospital. She spent most of her life where she was born in Washington, Pa. working for the Hazel-Atlas/Brockway Glass Company for more than 35 years prior to her retirement. She was predeceased by parents, Dewey and Elizabeth Mae Boring Amos and her two sisters, Catherine Ikey and Edith Johnson. She is survived by her son, Roger Knox of Fairfield and his wife, Susan; daughter, Garnet Zielske of Pleasanton, Calif. and her husband, Alfred; four grandchildren, Curtis Knox and his wife, Anika of Fairfield, Douglas Knox of Denver, Colo., Pamela Zielske and her husband, Michael Engelsgjerd of Rocklin, Calif., and Emily Zielske of Pittsburgh, Calif.; five great-grandchildren, Ethan and Sadie Knox of Fairfield and Amelia, Lillian, and Gabriel Engelsgjerd of Rocklin, Calif.; and two nieces; eight nephews; many great-nieces and nephews; and cousins. Strong willed and independent, Dorothy raised her children alone, instilling in them the need to respect honesty, integrity, and hard work. A sweet tooth was her vice and her fudge and cookies are famous in our circles and became rewards for many a chore. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards and building puzzles with friends and family. She was a good mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Norma F. Pfreim Cancer Center, Bridgeport Hospital Foundation, 267 Grant Street, Bridgeport, CT 06610. Her family wishes to express their appreciation for the compassionate and loving care Dorothy received from the nurses and staff at the Carolton. We will always be grateful to them for the way they cared for her during her residence there. The Spear - Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield has been entrusted with the arrangements.
