The Life of Mrs. Jean Alta Cooper

Jean Alta (Bean) Cooper, of Krumsville, passed away peacefully at the age of 95, on Thursday, July 21, 2022 in her log-home where she and her late husband lived for 37 years.  She was the loving and devoted wife of the late Lloyd Napierre Cooper, Jr., whom she married on February 7, 1948, by The Rev. Paul Reuman at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lansdale. Lloyd sadly passed away nine months earlier on October 17, 2021. Jean was surrounded by family members, as well as, her loyal and loving caregiver Fatoumata Dorsett, at the time of her passing.

 

Born in her family home in Lansdale, Montgomery County, PA, Jean was a daughter of the late Oliver Bryan Bean and Alice Trauger (Gruver) Bean. She was a graduate of Lansdale High School, Class of 1944, where she excelled in shorthand and typing in her business courses. Over the course of her career, Jean worked as a Secretary at Franklin Tile (1944-1952) and for the Township of Montgomery for 26 years (1957-1983). She also served as the Bookkeeper for the family farm. Jean was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Krumsville, and was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lansdale.

 

Jean was happiest when she was spending time with her family; planning many gatherings and celebrations, including the annual Cooper 4th of July picnic.  She and Lloyd enjoyed traveling the country with friends, especially Ralph and Nancy Sanner.  She loved painting and was an accomplished watercolor artist, entering paintings into the local fairs. Jean also loved music and sang in the church choir and was a member of the Kutztown Community Choir for many years.  Jean was an avid gardener who took great pride in cultivating her flowerbeds.  She could also be found cross-country skiing, square dancing and polka dancing with Lloyd, the love of her life.

 

Jean was a member of the Senior Extension Group of Montgomery County, Berks County Farmers Group, and looked forward to her monthly reunions with her co-workers from Franklin Tile. Jean had a loving and caring personality and a heart of gold. She knitted many sweaters and donated them to charity to help others in need.

 

Jean is survived by her four children, The Reverend Dennis Lloyd Cooper, and his wife, Deborah Anne (Tyler) Cooper, Carl Bryan Cooper, Gail Jean Cooper-Parks, widow of Daniel Parks, and William Custer Cooper; eight grandchildren, Dennis Lloyd Cooper, II, and his wife, Adrienne, Tamara Beth Cooper, Amanda Faith Cooper, Carl Bryan Cooper, Jr., and his wife, Carla, Carrie Marie (Cooper) Olmstead, and her husband, Matt, Jason Daniel Parks, and his significant other, Anna Katharina Liesenfeld, Michael Tyler Wessner and Melissa Sue (Wessner) Adam, and her husband, Eric; 17 great-grandchildren, Daniel Paul Meyers, Ivand Ignatius Cooper, Jonah Cornelius Cooper, Jenna Jade Meyers, Asher Cade Cooper, Crede Cole Cooper, Aramie Love Arroyo, Apirida Rose Cooper, Angel Louis Arroyo, Emma Louise Olmstead, Madilynn Marie "Maddi" Olmstead, Cooper James Olmstead, Lily Mae Adam, Claire Cooper, Lillian Grace Olmstead, Judah Ryan Adam and Legend Michael Cooper; and sister-in-law, Marcia (Roos) Cooper.

 

Along with her husband and parents, Jean was predeceased by her sister, Doris A. (Bean) Wetmore in 2020.

 

A funeral service to honor and celebrate Jean's life will be held on Friday, July 29, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes and Cremation Care, Inc., with Vicar Jeremiah T. Heydt and The Reverend Dennis L. Cooper, officiating. Burial will follow in New Bethel Zion Cemetery, Krumsville. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Friday afternoon from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. in the funeral home.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in Jean's memory to Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1343 Long Lane Road, Kutztown, PA 19530.
