The Life of Mr. Thomas J. Compono

Thomas J. Compono, Tom, was born October 15, 1952 in Brooklyn, NY and entered his eternal rest on Friday, November 12, 2021 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Susan, his children Samantha Compono Harrigan and Vanessa Compono Staples, his five grandchildren William Thomas "Tommy" Harrigan (7y), Peter Stacey Harrigan (4y), Eleanor Catherine Staples (3y), James Joseph Harrigan (2y), and Andrew Edward Harrigan (5mos), his brother John Compono, and two sons-in-law Bill Harrigan and Andrew Staples. His family was his greatest joy.
Tom gave so generously to those he loved. In his last years, he particularly loved spoiling his grandchildren with anything their hearts desired - from books, to toys, cards, candy – anything and everything that made them smile. But most generously, he shared his time, love, kindness, and attention. He passed on his passion and encyclopedic knowledge of comic books and superheroes to them, and always said "you can tell a lot about a person by looking at their heroes."
Tom was a 6 year army veteran, and served in the US National Guard. Earning every bit of his professional success, he began in the mailroom of the New York Stock Exchange at the age of 26. He worked his way up to become a broker on the floor of the NYSE for 32 years, vice president of his company, and member of the Buttonwood Club. He served as Eucharistic Minister at his parish, St. Catharine's in Holmdel, for many years before moving to Fairfield, just feet away from his grandchildren.
Visitation for Tom will take place on Tuesday, November 16th at Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home from 4-7pm. A funeral mass for Tom will take place on Wednesday, November 17th at 11am at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church. The family kindly requests that anyone in attendance be fully vaccinated for COVID.
In lieu of flowers, our family requests that contributions be made in Tom's name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, a cause dear to his heart.
