The Life of Barbara Ruth Adair

Barbara Ruth Adair

Barbara Compton Adair, age 83, of New Bern, NC joined her husband in heaven on January 14, 2022. Affectionately known as Babs, she was born November 9, 1938 to the late Ruth and Alan Compton.

Babs believed in the quiet simple life. The middle of three girls, she enjoyed the benefits of close sisterhood. Growing up in suburban Philadelphia, Babs attended the University of Delaware and Drexel University, where she studied interior design. A talented artist, her sketches and drawings grace several of her family members’ homes. She also was an accomplished violin player and performed with the Lansdowne Symphony.

She married Meredith Ramsey Adair of Drexel Hill in 1960. They made a home together in Springfield, Delaware County, PA, where they formed strong friendships that lasted for generations. In 1981, they opened a new chapter in their lives in Casselberry, FL. There Babs was employed as an executive secretary, and at one time had the honor of working in a high-security position with a military contractor. They later moved to Edgewater, FL, where they enjoyed a quiet retirement on the Intracoastal Waterway.

Babs was an accomplished baker, known for her incredible bread and cookies. She also was highly skilled at needlework and puzzles. Generous in nature, she was an avid supporter of many nonprofits, especially animal rescues. Touring Williamsburg VA and making dolls with her sister Carol were among her greatest pleasures. She also found joy in books, nature, music, and art.

In 2014, her beloved Murry passed away, and New Bern, NC had the chance to benefit from her presence. She found a new church, volunteered her time, donated to local charities, and adopted yet more rescues.

She is survived by her sisters Carol Kutyla (John) of Lansdale, PA and Virginia Burger (Steve) of Edmonds, WA; two children Barbara Adair Krcmar of New Bern, NC and William Adair of Logan, UT; three grandchildren, Hannah Krcmar (Charles “Josh” Overly), Levi Krcmar, all of Salt Lake City, UT and Lillian Krcmar of New Bern, NC. She is also survived by her beloved rescue pets, Dougie, Mama Cat, Carrie, George, and Amy. We all will miss her loving presence, quiet strength, and grace.

She is predeceased by her husband and favorite dancing partner, Meredith Ramsey Adair.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity. She would love that.

Service Information: A private memorial will take place later on this spring at Arlington Cemetery in Drexel Hill, PA.
