The Life of GRANISON N PRENTICE JR

Granison Nabors Prentice, Jr. (affectionately known as “Poppa” was born November 28, 1942, in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Granison Nabors Prentice, Sr. and Juanita Margaret (Lomax) Prentice.  He completed his spiritual and earthly journey here on May 16, 2022.  

Granison enjoyed track and was outstanding in his performance at Herron Hill Jr. High and Schenley High School excelling in speed and flare winning many honors and championships. He was truly a star on the track and field.

Granison, briefly served in the United States Navy where he received a medical discharge.  

He had a love for the culinary arts.  Granison became a popular chef in the Pittsburgh area and enjoyed a successful catering business that served many prestigious organizations in our area.  Food was his passion and the people he served along the path brought him great joy.  You could not meet Poppa and not love his gregarious personality and infectious smile.

Granison (Poppa) leaves to mourn his memory are his former wife Conchita, Children, Pastor, Granison Nabors Prentice, III, (“Missy”); Anthony Tyree Prentice, (Angela).  His siblings, Janice Joy Henderson-Curbison, (Carl) Paulette Prentice, Marvin Prentice, ( Joan) Marsha Prentice Boyden, and Rev. Dr. Marshall (Elvira) Prentice.  Grandchildren, Anthony Prentice, Michael Prentice, Alex Prentice, Tyler Prentice, Alexandria Prentice, Isaiah Prentice, Arielle Prentice, Juleon Prentice, and Granison Nabors Prentice, IV.  Also, to mourn are a host of great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces, cousins and friends. Also, to mourn his passing is Michelle Smithson, his significant other.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at the Sanctuary of Praise on 7801 Kelly St., Pittsburgh, PA 15208. Viewing will begin at 11am and services begins at 12pm. Interment will immediately follow at the Allegheny Cemetery.
