The Life of Mr John M. Sheets Sr.

John M. Sheets Sr., son of the late Robert Davis Sheets II and Cathrine Elizabeth (Woolmer) Sheets, went to be with The Lord on February 22, 2022 at 10:10 am. John was born in York, PA on October 11, 1928. John was the husband of the late Ramona M. (Yohe) Sheets. John and Ramona were married for 71 years. A graveside service of life will be held for John and Ramona at a later date. John graduated, in 1947, from the industrial course at William Penn SHS of York, PA. World War II was in full swing at the time. At age 16, John had started his machinist apprenticeship at Read Machinery of York. John continued to work, 11 years, for Read Machinery. John then went to work for S. Morgan Smith which was later purchased by Allis Chalmers and in turn was acquired by the Precision Components Corporation. John started his career as a journeyman machinist and was eventually promoted to foreman of a large machine shop at Precision Components. John later held positions as Senior Process Analyst, Senior Engineering Analyst and Supervisor of Material Handling. John retired with over 34 years of service! After 2 years of retirement, John acquired a job and worked an additional 11 years as a delivery driver and all-around handyman for Dick Hill Auto Parts. John was an avid hunter, bowler and softball player. He also enjoyed fishing. John was a member of the NRA, the ABC Bowling Association as well as a member of the 25 Year Club for Precision Components. John was a member of Heidelberg UCC Church where he served on the consistory for nineteen years as a deacon and elder. John served as consistory president for 12 of those years, after which, John joined The York Bible Church in 2005 with his wife Ramona. John is survived by three of his five children; Teresa Keyes of York, James Sheets of New Oxford, PA and Julie Habecker of Dover, PA. His eldest daughter was the late Eleanor Moyer and eldest son the late John Sheets Jr. John also has 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
