The Life of Mr. Forrest Laird Rauenzahn

Forrest L. "Foss" Rauenzahn, 84, of Mertztown, died unexpectedly Wednesday, February 9, 2022, in his residence.  He was the husband of Shirley A. (Haas) Rauenzahn.  They were married December 10, 1955.  Born in Topton, he was a son of the late Edwin and Clara (Laird) Rauenzahn.  Forrest was a member of Saint John's United Church of Christ, Kutztown. 

 

Foss was a graduate of Kutztown Area High School, Class of 1955, where he was a member  of the soccer, basketball and baseball teams.  Following high school Forrest played baseball for Topton American Legion and also played basketball for Topton Celtics in the Rec League.

 

Foss was employed as a brick and stone mason; first for Kern Masonry, Topton; then Don Grider  Masonry, Kutztown; and then retired in 2003, as Masonry Foreman from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania.

 

Forrest was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed playing golf, he enjoyed spending time teaching his family how to enjoy life, attending his grandchildren's and great grandchildren's sporting events. Foss enjoyed spending time with his loving and caring wife at their cabin in Pike County. Foss and Shirley also enjoyed going out to breakfast and their many trips to the casinos.

 

Foss was a member of Lyons Fire Company, Kutztown Fraternal Order of Eagles, Kutztown Rod & Gun Club, Mertztown Rod & Gun Club, Cougar Tail, Ray A. Master, Post 217 American Legion, Topton, and Promised Land Sportsmens Club.

 

In addition to his wife of 66 years, Shirley, Foss is survived by three sons: Barry L., husband of Judith A. (Sheiman) Rauenzahn, Kutztown; Rickey A., husband of Tina R. (Stoudt) Rauenzahn, Millsboro, DE; Keith F., husband of Cindy M. (Steltz) Rauenzahn, Alburtis; two daughters: Cindy A. (Rauenzahn), wife of Benjamin E. Meck, Mertztown; Tracey L. (Rauenzahn), wife of Kyle E. Miller, Kempton.  Other survivors include nine grandchildren:  Kristin M. (Rauenzahn) Haring; Ashlee N. (Rauenzahn) Adams; Derrick R. Rauenzahn; Jacqueline S. (Meck) Heffner; Zachary B. Meck; Ryan F. Rauenzahn; Casey E. Miller; Alexis P. (Miller) Kitson; Jocelyn N. Miller; and ten great grandchildren.  There are four siblings:  Marjorie (Rauenzahn) Geiger; Wayne Rauenzahn; Robert Rauenzahn, and Patrick Rauenzahn.  In addition to his parents, Foss was predeceased by siblings: Edwin Rauenzahn, Jr.; Raymond Rauenzahn; and June (Rauenzahn) Boyer.

 

There will be a visitation with family on Saturday, February 19, 2022, from 3:00 - 5:00 PM, at Ludwick Funeral Homes and Cremation Care, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown. Military Honors, provided by The Pennsylvania Military Honor Guard, Ft. Indiantown Gap, Annville, will conclude the visitation at 5:00 p.m.  Inurnment will be private at the convenience of the family.
