Darlington Twp., PA - Gwendolyn T. Shiel, 87, of Darlington Twp., formerly of Lafayette, Louisiana, died on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at her residence. Born August 2, 1934 in New Orleans, Louisiana, she was the daughter of Archie J. Terrebonne and Julia Bloemer. She graduated from Dominican High School and the former Hotel Dieu School of Nursing. She worked for 29 years as a psychiatric nurse at Acadiana Mental Health in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Gwen loved square dancing, ceramics, trail-riding, playing Canasta and Monopoly. She was a devout Catholic who loved God and the church. Her best quality was that she always had something positive to say to everyone, with a smile on her face! She was married for 40 years to Fred H. Shiel, Jr. who was the love of her life. She remained committed to him in her heart for her whole life.

She is survived by her five children: David W. Shiel, Sharon S. (Brett) Hudson, James B.(Marcy) Shiel, Julie S (Stephen) Davies, and Michael P. Shiel, 17 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 2 great- great grandchildren.

There will be a graveside service at Lafayette Memorial Park in Lafayette, Louisiana on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022 at 10 a.m. for all who would like to attend. A Celebration of Life will follow at a later date.
