The Life of Ruth E Devlin

Ruth E. Devlin, 94, of Pottsville, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2021, at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville.

 

Born Sept. 18, 1927, in Fountain Springs, she was a daughter of the late Edwin and Doris (White) Hoffman.

 

Ruth worked as a seamstress for H.L. Miller and Son, Port Carbon, and also owned and operated Devlin's Grill, Pottsville.

 

She was a member of the former St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church, Port Carbon. Ruth was a bartender at the Yorkville Hose Company, VFW Post 129, and Mechanicsville Fish and Game Club, where she was also a member and steward.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Devlin Sr.; brother, Edwin J. Hoffman Jr.; sister, Gertrude Hoffman.

 

Ruth is survived by sons, William J. Devlin Jr. and his wife, Marianne, Pottsville, and Thomas J. Devlin and his wife, Christine, Bayside, N.Y.; daughter, Patricia S. Devine and her husband, Michael, Pottsville; grandchildren, Dana, Jennifer and her husband, Edward, and Ryan and his wife, Mary; great-grandchildren, Mark, Dylan, Emily, Colin and Madelyn.

 

A religious service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, at Robert A. Evans Jr. Funeral Home, Port Carbon, with the Monsignor William Glosser officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be held in Schuylkill Memorial Park Cemetery, Schuylkill Haven.
