The Life of Mrs Edith G. Heindel

Edith G. "Edie" Heindel, age 91, of York, died at 6:12 AM Thursday, November 25, 2021, at Kelly Manor.

She was born May 4, 1930, in Berlin, Germany. She was the daughter of the late Johannes and Gertrud (John) Ruh and wife of the late Albert L. Heindel, Sr. They were married on February 12, 1971, in Stuttgart, Germany. After high school, she pursued a career in the medical field as a medical assistant while living in Germany. She worked for twenty years in pediatrics, internal medicine, and ophthalmology. She entered the United States in April 1971 and was an active member of Union Lutheran Church where she served on the Worship and Music Committee for 21 years and joined the Altar Guild in 1987. She also served as a member of the Stewardship Committee and helped the "Bazaar" ladies with the annual church bazaar. She was active in Alpenrose, the German American Society of York. In this organization, she was Membership Chairperson, Trip Coordinator to German events, Dance Ticket Chairperson and Board member. She was also a member of AARP and served as the Chapter Volunteer Hours Chairperson. She was also a member of The White Rose Polka Dances Association and the Capital City Polka Dancers Association. She loved to travel with her husband overseas to Germany, Holland, Austria, Italy and Greece. Edith loved people and made many friends throughout her lifetime. She will be greatly missed.

She leaves behind two sons, Alan Heindel (Christina), and Albert L. Heindel, Jr. (Rosemarie); three granddaughters, Kristin Gates (Jeremy), Saralyn Durrett, and Laura Heindel; and two great-granddaughters, Miranda Gates and Max Renae Durrett.

Funeral services for Mrs. Edith Heindel will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Union Lutheran Evangelical Church, 408 West Market Street, York, with her Visitation Pastor, The Rev. Beth Folkemer, officiating. Viewing will be 1-2:00 PM. Burial to follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery. William E. Little Funeral Homes, Inc., 2150 Carlisle Road, York, is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to SpiriTrust Lutheran or Union Lutheran Evangelical Church.
