The Life of STANLEY MACIEJEWSKI

Stanley Maciejewski, of Reading, passed away peacefully at his home on the morning of November 19, 2021, in the care and companionship of his loving family after having enjoyed a full and enriching 90 amazing years of life. For 52 years, Stanley was the loving, caring and devoted husband of Olga (Chmura) Maciejewski who only upon her death did they part on December 26, 2013. Born July 1931 and raised on the South-Side of Reading, Stanley was the youngest son of nine children of the late Lawrence and Magdalena (Fryzewicz) Maciejewski. He was a graduate of Reading School District and enjoyed a life-long pursuit of knowledge and accomplishment. Stanley was a dependable, hard working blue-collar worker. He had a vast array of jobs, the first of which was at Berkshire Knitting Mills followed by several years working at Birdsboro Steel where he advanced his skills from casting de-molding up to crane operator. Stanley then moved on to a career at Firestone Tire and Rubber, Pottstown in the resin production facility. Stanley then began a colorful and fulfilling array of employment ventures over the following years. One of the earliest of such was being a “Yummy Tummy” ice cream truck driver for the South-Side District of Reading, and according to his daughters at the time, it was the best job that their Dad ever had. Stanley was an avid sportsman and his passion for the outdoors lead him to become a Deputy Warden with the Pennsylvania Fish and Game Commission where he promoted and enforced conservation practices across the region. He advanced the development and promotion of the Emergency Medical Service System through the rural residential Help Number Program. He enjoyed several years employed at Sheerlund Forests in Cumru Township practicing forestry and additional conservation programs. Later Stanley worked at Trim Masters of Reading as a machine operator. Stanley’s last official place of employment was with the City of Reading where he worked for the Water Department until his retirement in 1981. This milestone did not mark the end of his employment path, instead it only allowed more time to be spent at his self-employment venture as a Produce Wholesaler. Neighbors and local patrons will recall, Mr. Stanley as the “green grocer” who brought fresh vegetables, fruits and flowers of all kinds from Lancaster county farms to Reading’s inner city residents. He sold his produce at his city row-home and at various road-side locations from the trunk of his car including locations in Mt. Penn and Stoney Creek. He did this to keep himself busy, have a good time meeting new people, make friends and to help those in need. When Stanley found an opportunity to help others he never hesitated, as Stanley would make frequent produce donations to local church organizations and Helping Harvest. Stanley had many other small business ventures through his life including lawn and landscaping services, snow removal, and selling firewood. Stanley had many hobbies and interests, including but not limited to: hunting, gardening, cooking, woodworking, wine making, and going to flea markets, yard sales and auctions. Fishing was Stanley’s favorite hobby. From local streams and lakes to deep sea locations, Stanley was a passionate and skillful fisherman. But no place had as special a meaning to him as Oneida Lake, NY where he and his wife would spend countless time building endless memories together and with many close and dear friends for over 25 years at SVC. Stanley continued to fish Oneida Lake for Walleye and Perch with his son Jeffrey all the way through September of this year. Stanley was an active member of the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church of Reading where he volunteered his time and talents as facilities caretaker for some time. Along with his wife, he was an active and integral member of the Pierogi Society and lead his family to manage the potato placki stall at the church picnics and festivals for many years. Stanley lived an active and satisfying life. His most important and enjoyable activity above all else was sharing the company of his family. His wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren meant everything to him. Stanley is survived by three daughters, Candice (Maciejewski) Hunsicker and her husband, Kenneth of Shartlesville; Lillian (Maciejewski) Przyjemski and her husband, David of Maiden Creek; Deborah Maciejewski, and boyfriend, Harvey Austin of Naples, Florida; and two sons, Calvin Maciejewski and his wife, Crystal (Baranowski) of Fredericksburg; and Jeffrey Maciejewski of Reading. He is predeceased by his son, Timothy Maciejewski. His daughters by love are Katherine (Pidhajnyj) Hockar of Henderson, NV; and Helen Pidhajnyj of Yardey, PA. His grandchildren are Joshua and Melia Przyjemski of Maiden Creek; Kristie Judson, wife of Joseph, Columbia Crossroads; Brielle (Hunsicker) Tofts, wife of Robert, Troy; and Orion Maciejewski, Fredericksburg. His great-grandchildren are Joseph Jr., and Jeramie Judson, and Hadlie Tofts.
