The Life of Mr. Luther A. Wise

Luther A. Wise, age 100, of York, died at 12:06 AM, on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at York Hospital, of complications of Covid, while under hospice care.

Born November 6, 1921, in York, a son of the late John and Mary (Loucks) Wise, he served in the United States Army during World War II, in Panama, from 1942-1945. He retired as an accountant from U.S. Expansion Bolt Company of York after 42 years and was a founding member of Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church. For 30 years he dressed as the Easter Bunny, and a reindeer at Christmas, visiting children's homes and hospitals to deliver candy. He was a kind and loving person, who always thought of others.

Mr. Wise is survived by two nieces, Sandy Danley, and her husband Donald, and Mary Ellen Silzer; a nephew, Floyd Wise and his wife Anna Jane; great-nieces and nephews; and a long time friend, John L. Clark, of Lititz. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd and Charles Wise.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Friday, November 19, 2021, at The Semmel Chapel of Workinger Semmel Funeral Homes and Cremation, 849 East Market Street, York, with The Rev'd. Grant Ambrose officiating. Visitation will be from 1:30-2:00 PM. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery, with military rites presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Andrew's Episcopal, 1502 Fourth Avenue, York, PA 17403.
