My Friend Mr. Brendlinger

Mr. Brendlinger was my favorite teacher at West Pottsgrove Elementary School and then again at Upper Pottsgrove Elementary School. I feel so fortunate to have had him as a teacher and a friend. We  kept in touch with letters and Christmas cards over the years and even had the opportunity to visit with each other not to long ago. He always made school fun and I will never forget his wonderful personality that made him the special person he was! I only wish I could have attended his funeral service but just now heard of his passing.  My condolences to his lovely family. The world and "Me" especially will miss this exceptional person!!!!!

Teacher and Editor

Mr. Brendlinger stepped in when Salem Christian School was shorthanded in the very early 90's when I was a student there.  He taught high school Social Studies, and one lesson even involved a reenactment of the duel between Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton in class with water pistols.  35+ years later I don't remember the lessons, but I remember that he was a great teacher.  I also went to school with his son Jamie and remember the end of year parties out at the Brendlinger house.  Years later, when he was the editor of the church newsletter, the Salem Sounds, I wrote anonymously and he and I had a lot of fun as he tried to figure out who I was and I tried to prevent such a discovery.  (I did call him up about 10 years ago to finally tell him, but it had gone on for 15-20 years at that point.) I also heard about his passing after the funeral.  I wish the blessing of God's peace that truly does pass all understanding on Pat and the rest of his family.  We sorrow, but not as those who have no hope.  We sorrow with the full knowledge that this is not a true "goodbye" but a "See you later!"

6th Grade - Upper Pottsgrove

I only just heard that Mr Brendlinger passed and felt compelled to share a few memories with the family.   Mr Brendlinger was the model teacher in terms of professionalism and fairness.     He always made sure we understood what he was teaching so we actually 'learned' something.     I have fond memories of him although a couple of those memories were of getting the 'paddle' from him, along with a classmate of mine, all from simple mischievous things like throwing paper airplanes during music class or talking too much.     He would leave the classroom while the music teacher came in but he would stand outside the door and it was almost like he knew there was a reflection in the glass so we couldnt see him.   When class was over he would quietly come in the room, point to us and motion with his index finger to 'come with him'.     We knew what was coming next....down to the nurses office where we would bend over and get 5 or 6 whacks with the paddle.    We accepted it like big boys and frankly shrugged it off as the price we paid for being troublemakers in class.    The best memories I have of Mr Brendlinger however were of playing football during recess on our playground which was mostly made up of sparse grass, stones and some smaller rocks.    But it was recess and thats all that mattered.   He would play quarterback and I was one of the receivers and I can still see him throwing bombs and catching them right next to a wooden fence and ditch on the edge of school property.  I'm pretty sure he enjoyed playing as much as we did as he was a young athletic guy that enjoyed talking sports.     Simple times, but fun and great memories of one of the best teachers I ever had.     Rest in peace Mr Brendlinger!    Bill Binczak
