The Life of Margery Berretta

Margery Berretta, of Murrysville, passed away Thursday, Oct. 14, 2021, at Canterbury Place in Pittsburgh. She was born in Mt. Kisco, N.Y., daughter of the late James and Mary Faller. With a master's degree from Teachers College, Columbia University, Margery had two careers as a music teacher. She taught in Valley Stream, N.Y. prior to her marriage, and then in the 1980s she was a popular music teacher in the Gateway and Franklin Regional school districts. Famous for her cooking and party-giving, Margery gained acclaim for her Titanic-themed party in 1998, as featured in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and in the book, "The Last Night on the Titanic: Unsinkable Drinking, Dining and Style." An avid singer and pianist, Margery directed the Murrysville Monday Musicale and was an active member of International Women for many years. Margery is survived by her husband, Alfred Berretta; daughter, Lisa Berretta, of Ashburn, Va.; and son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Amy Berretta, of New York City. A world traveler, cherished friend, chatterbox and cheerful companion, Margery will be missed and long remembered by all who knew her. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at HART FUNERAL HOME INC., Murrysville. Private interment will be at Penn Forest Natural Burial Park, Verona.
